Letter from the President

On behalf of the Suwannee County Economic Alliance, we extend greetings to the residents of Suwannee County and welcome to those of you who are seeking a rural area in which to live, work and play

The Suwannee County Economic Alliance is made up of the Chamber of Commerce, the Council for Progress, the Development Authority and the Tourist Development Council. Each of these organizations has a unique and important role in Suwannee County and in the Alliance

As you probably know, the Chamber of Commerce is a co-op of businesses and individuals working together with the main goal of advancing in the civic and social betterment and interest of our community. The chamber works at maintaining awareness of key issues at local, state, and federal levels and strives to increase awareness of the importance of buying locally. We host Business After Hours, ribbon cuttings, and provide programs for local businesses. We also work to support growth, increase tourism and promote local attractions and events. Our largest sponsored event is Christmas on the Square which takes place on the first Saturday in December every year.

The Development Authority promotes economic development. This organization has developed and maintains two industrial parks. The most recent park, the East 90 Commerce Center, is located just off of US Highway 90 only a short distance from both Interstate 10 and 75 and has choice lots still available. The Development Authority’s main focus is land acquisition and overseeing engineering and planning requirements or feasibility studies for new businesses that are interested in expanding or locating in Suwannee County.

The Council for Progress is the organization that deals in the public relations end of economic development by working directly with existing businesses that are interested in expanding and businesses that are considering relocation to Suwannee County. This is an exciting time for our county. With business and industrial growth come more jobs and better salaries. However, one thing we don’t want to do is to lose the rural atmosphere that we all enjoy. Thanks is due to your city and county officials who are working together, along with the Alliance, to guide the way that growth happens and keep our rural integrity. By becoming a member of the Council for Progress you could be a part of the exciting work that is going on and help build a better future for Suwannee County.

The Tourist Development Council works with local tourism related industries to promote Suwannee County. The Suwannee River provides the backdrop for many outdoor recreational activities in The Original Florida. Cave diving and the many springs of the Suwannee River Valley are another famous resource in our area. Many and various concerts and events and the Suwannee County Historical Museum add to the list of our tourism offerings. The Tourist Development Council assists financially with many events in Suwannee County through grants and sponsorships.

Our website has further information on all of these organizations as well as chamber news, links to much needed information and a calendar of local events. We hope you enjoy your new Chamber Website and if we can be of service to you in any way please contact us.

Sincerely

Dennis Cason
