65th Banquet Huge Success

The Chamber's 65 Installation & Awards Banquet was a huge success.  Appetizers were served on the deck overlooking White Lake and  beautiful dining room at Camp Weed was packed. The entertainment was provided by Grillo Jazz Quartet.

Congratulations go to Wendell Snowden named Citizen of the Year. Mr. Snowden is the President of the Wellborn Citizens Association and largely responsible for the growth of the Blueberry Festival. Mr. John Yulee was named Trailblazer. Mr. Yulee currently serves on the Live Oak City Council and has been giving back to Suwannee County for over 40 yrs. Teen Peavy of Spirit of The Suwannee was recognized as Outstanding Board member for her tireless work in promoting Suwannee County. Recognized also was past Chairman of the Chamber John Burley.  Bruce Tillman was inducted as Chairman and new board members are Clifford Gwinn, Mike Koon & Jimmy Norris, welcome aboard!

The program was presented by Michael Preston Vice President of Government Relations for Enterprise Florida. Michael gave the audience a first time seen preview of the new program Rural Florida Economic Study. Enterprise Florida is the State of Florida's engine to drive economic development and Gov. Scott has pushed for this plan. Citing Florida as the "Perfect Climate for Business". A very informative and interesting program.  Copies of the study will be available at the Chamber. 

 

        

 

Governor Scott and Local Leaders announce Klausner Lumber One to bring 350 jobs to Suwannee County

Governor Rick Scott today announced the construction in Suwannee County of the Klausner Lumber One sawmill, a high-tech facility that will create 350 permanent jobs and inject $130 million in capital over three years.  Construction on the site will require 700 additional positions.

Governor Rick Scott said, “In addition to creating hundreds of employment opportunities for Florida’s families and further growing the state’s economy, the construction of this facility represents true partnerships between many different local and statewide organizations. Their efforts will create 350 new jobs for Florida families in this community.  We welcome Klausner Lumber One to our state.”

Friedrich Klausner of Klausner Lumber One said, “This project has been a huge undertaking with many challenges that we have been able to work through with Suwannee County.  But this is inevitable with a project of this size.  The significant impact on this region has made it all worthwhile!  We are pleased to be here and will be good corporate citizens in this community.”
